_Hummingbird Montessori School opened in
2009 as a home daycare with 5 students, and has grown into a registered
private school with casa and lower elementary classes serving 20 students, now
entering our 4th year. Our school is the result of many years of hard
work by two sisters, Sherri Jackson & Megan McQueen.
Located in the hall of St. Andrew's Maple Cross Church in Creemore, our school maintains a lovely schoolhouse charm. It is bright, welcoming and designed to inspire love of learning through hands-on exploration and discovery. We follow Maria Montessori's philosophy of "follow the child", where the teacher is a guide, observer, and catalyst to learning, rather than the central figure in the classroom.
At Hummingbird, children are introduced to a love of learning that lasts a lifetime. We nurture, encourage and guide the children to reach their highest potential, while recognizing their individuality and supporting their own interests and aptitudes. We follow Maria Montessori's credo of "Follow the Child". It is our goal to help each child evolve into a caring, compassionate, productive and responsible member of their community.
Our school offers a casa class, for children ages 3 to 6, and a lower elementary class for grades 1 through 4. As well we have a hot, healthy lunch program, and specialty classes in French, art, music, nature studies and phys ed.
